Terrence Cooper ..born 1954, Began his artistic adventure in 1977, graduating from West Wollongong TAFE and joined the Byrne Surfboard Company as Shaper, Designer and Artist.

He was exhibiting successfully at Danny Ryan’s Stairs Gallery while still at TAFE and was included in Tony Bond’s South Coast Young Contemporary’s Exhibition at the new Wollongong City Art Gallery in 1980 followed by Frank McBride’s “Coastbusters” survey show a few years later.

He continued to exhibit for a number of years until a focus shift to the Surf Culture Explosion in the late 80s saw his creative energies redeployed in becoming part of the Byrne Creative Team that helped pioneer the Byrne Brand as one of the leaders in surfboard production and design in Australia….Exciting Days…he has also worked in Japan and the USA.

Artist Statement

NOW… The objective of my work is to not only create pretty things—-But to understand the capacity of mark making as a language, process or even a weapon to help Identify–Translate–and Navigate human emotion and expression and re-align Identity.
